Another Kennedy assassinated!

Ian Kennedy 4IP 13H 10ER 2BB 4K Stick a fork in him. Wait that’s like stabbing someone, don’t! He has to be pitching injured or something. An epic eight run inning was his undoing, where he gave up three home-runs. In his last 29 innings, he’s given up 21 earned runs. While he’s still striking out almost a batter per inning in that time-frame, his strikeouts are down on the year. He’s also allowing his opponents a .282 batting average, something that leads to outings just like this one. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of silver lining right now, I’d say you hold him and hope for the best. But if someone sends you an offer thinking he’ll rebound to his 2011 form, or even a bit less, you might want to consider it.Anyway, here’s what else I saw in fantasy baseball yesterday …

Shelby Miller 6IP 6H 2ER 9K Miller looked to struggle as this game started out, giving up two quick runs to Paul Goldschmidt and Miguel Montero in the first inning. But Miller was triple-hops-brewed cool after that, tossing five scoreless frames. Miller is another in a great line of pitching prospects to come out of this organization that seem to be ready to hit the ground running in the majors. With great defense, a powerful offense behind them, and pitching in the NL central (which isn’t as bad as it used to be, but it’s not the AL) I think I’ve decided to only own Cardinal’s starters. And hitters for that matter.

Daniel Descalso 3/4 2RBI HR On any other team, I think a light hitting second baseman would get overlooked, but if you’re in need at 2B, definitely give Descalso a shot. While he won’t hit a lot of home-runs, or tally up RBIs, his greatest asset is leveling out your batting average, allowing you to roster all or nothing power guys without killing your ratios.  He also has the potential to score a lot of runs with the Cardinals’ lineup being potent throughout. So, after some thought, give Barefoot Dan a chance.

David Ortiz 1/4 3RBI HR Consistent as ever, and doesn’t seem to show signs of aging yet. Ortiz came though in the clutch for the Sawx, delivering a three run home-run in the bottom of the ninth to seal the deal for Boston. Remember a few years ago when we all though he was done? Big Papi is pissed.

Adrian Beltre 3/4 RBI HR Beltre hit his second homer in as many games. After leaving last Saturdays extra innings game and having to sit out a few with a sore hamstring, Beltre is at it again. Another very consistent hitter, we’re starting to see him really pull away from that early season slump, a welcome sight to owners that either held him or traded for him when he was down. Kudos!

Victor Martinez 2/4 3RBI HR Number three on our list of oldies but goodies, V-Mart is looking better and better over the last couple weeks. His average is only .231 on the year, but he was away from baseball for a long time, so it may have taken awhile to shake off the rust. If you can scoop him from an owner who thinks this is a good time to sell, I’d do it. He’ll only get better as the weather starts to warm up and more balls start leaving the yard.

Bud Norris 9H 3ER BB 7K On most other teams, this line would be a game winner. But, these are the Astros. Norris seemed to have better control in this game, and his K rate is sneaking up. He’s a solid backend starter, and outside of a couple blowup games earlier this year, he’s been pretty reliable for what you paid for him, which was likely nothing. Keep trotting him out there at home where he owns a 2.28 ERA in eight games started…and three wins.

Domonic Brown 2/3 R 2SB Looks like if Downtown Dom Brown doesn’t hit you a home-run, he’ll swipe a few bases instead!! This guy has been playing out of his mind lately, hitting .444 with 5HR, 12RBI in his last seven games! Looks like all the confusion Charlie Manuel caused this kid while shipping him back and forth from the minors to the majors all those years paid off. He’s afraid if he has a slump Charlie will send him back! Seriously though, we’re finally seeing all the potential that people talked about on this kid.

Ryan Doumit 1/3 2RBI HR Another guy playing out of his mind lately. Doumit hit his fifth home-run in the last ten days yesterday, tacking onto his RBI total of fifteen in that time-frame. In most leagues, Doumit also has OF eligibility, so while it may not last, get this guy in your lineup while he’s hot!

Lorenzo Cain 2/4 2R 2RBI HR Cain looks to be stringing together some productive games lately, as he sent one deep in the eighth off Jared Burton. It’s only the second home-run of the year from Cain, so I wouldn’t expect a power surge. He has a long way to go on fulfilling his expectations this season as a possible 20/20 player, but if these Royals start to click, I absolutely think that Cain is worth a scoop as your fifth outfielder. The speed is there, he just needs to find his swing. Get ‘em!

Yasiel Puig 2/4 R 4RBI After all the panic of going 0/4 yesterday, Puig added to the hype by belting a grand slam off Braves reliever Cory Gearrin to break the game wide open in the bottom of the eighth, a good thing considering how shaky the Dodgers’ closing situation has been lately. Puig seems to be as advertised, so if by some miracle he’s available in your league, grab him!! You MUST gamble on upside like that, that’s how the game is won!!

Yonder Alonso DNP Was supposed to be out the minimum 15 days on the disabled list, turns out it will now be at least a month with a fractured hand. Alonso is safe to cut loose in redraft leagues, although he does have some value in keeper leagues, where he was staring to get closer to a breakout season. If your bench is shallow, and your DL spot is occupied however, I can see cutting him in that situation as well.
